Teaching and Learning

Developing your Teaching

This area of the UCO Intranet website will give you resources that may be useful in your teaching or to help you with your own teaching development.

The UCO's goal is to encourage and facilitate the development of a distinctive UCO approach to the academic curriculum and experience, appropriately nuanced for different subjects and student groups.

The UCO has developed its own Postgraduate Certificate in  Clinical and Academic Practice (PgCAP)  this is a 60-credit Masters Level course for all who are employed in a teaching role at the UCO.

The UCO encourages all teaching staff  to apply to the Higher Education Academy for recognition for their teaching. Please contact HR if you wish further information.

This recognition contributes towards the professionalisation of teaching by conferring the status of Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow or Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy on those who have met the appropriate standards in the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and supporting learning in higher education (UKPSF).

There are many benefits to gaining recognition as an Academy Fellow:

  • It provides national recognition of your commitment to professionalism in teaching and learning in higher education.
  • It demonstrates that your practice is aligned with the UKPSF.
  • It provides an indicator of professional identity for higher education practitioners, including the entitlement to use post-nominal letters.
  • It is a portable asset, that has UK-wide relevance and which is increasingly recognised by higher and further education institutions
If staff are interested then they should review the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF), this provides a general description of the main dimensions of the roles of teaching and supporting learning within the HE environment.
