Disability Support
The University College of Osteopathy is committed to supporting applications from students with disabilities, and we do all we can to ensure we are accessible and welcoming to all.

The Disability Advisor
The Disability Advisor is available to discuss any issues you may have and can provide services such as:
  • Sign language interpreters
  • Note takers
  • Dyslexia screening / tuition and mentoring support
  • Confidential advice and information about academic and personal issues
  • Adjustments in examinations
  • Applying for the Disabled Student Allowances (DSA) and purchasing suitable equipment

Disabled Student Allowance
If you have a disability, mental health problem or long-term medical condition you may be eligible for a Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) which help pay for extra costs you may incur in attending your course as a direct result of your disability or Specific Learning Disability (SpLD).
You can get help with:
  • Specialist equipment
  • Non-medical helpers
  • Extra travel becuase of your disability
  • Other disability-related costs of studying
You can get this allowance on top of your other student finance and you won't need to repay any DSA's.
Applications are processed by your UK funding body, Student Finance England for example, and will ask you to provide evidence of your disability such as a doctor's letter or a current educational psychologist's report. How much you receive depends on you individual needs - not your household income.
If you are disabled it's important to make sure that you've applied for the right funding and to tell the right people what you need. UCAS provide further information about this and provides a short video about a DSA needs assessment:
